Restaurant Tip Calculator and Bill Splitter
The problem
The customer wanted a simple way for diners to work out a tip and split a bill on their website. Doing this by hand is error-prone, especially when a check is divided among several people and the amounts need to be rounded to the cent.
What we built
We built a single-screen calculator with a bill amount field that checks for numeric entry. Tip percentage can be chosen with quick-pick buttons (15%, 18%, 20%) or entered as a custom percentage. A number-of-people field accepts any whole number of 1 or more. The calculator shows the tip amount, the total with tip, and each person's share, rounded to the nearest cent with a note explaining how leftover cents are shown. The layout is responsive for phones and desktop and is styled with the customer's site colors and fonts. It was delivered as a hosted link and an embed snippet for their website, along with the full source code.
Outcome
The customer can now put a tip calculator and bill splitter on their website, either through the embed snippet or the hosted link. Visitors can enter a bill, pick or type a tip percentage, set the number of people, and see the tip, the total, and each person's share. The customer also has the full source code and can self-host it if they choose.
