Order status lookup and tracking dashboard for a made-to-order shop

The problem

Customers of a made-to-order shop had no easy way to see where their piece was in the process, so they had to call or email to ask. The shop owner also had no single place to see which orders were in which stage, which were past due, and who needed an update.

What we built

We built a public order lookup where a customer enters their order number plus the email or phone on the order. Both must match, wrong details return one generic error, and a honeypot field filters out bots. The status view shows the item, a stage timeline with the current stage highlighted, the estimated completion date, a dated update history with notes, and the shop's contact details. Customers can opt in to email updates. The owner signs in by magic link and gets a dashboard with orders grouped by stage (columns on desktop, a stage filter on phones), past-due dates in red, a one-tap move to the next stage, a menu to pick any stage, and an Add note action. Owners can add orders with an auto-suggested order number, search by order number or name, and import orders by pasting CSV. Settings cover shop name, contact details, timezone, editable stages (with the first and last fixed), order number prefix, and notify email. Stage changes and notes send emails through the platform email helper, always for Ready and Delivered. A daily scheduled job emails the owner a list of overdue, undelivered orders, at most once per day. A demo mode with 18 sample orders is included, and it never sends real email.

Outcome

Customers can check their own order status at any time with their order number and contact details, and can choose to get emailed when their order changes stage. The shop owner can see every order by stage, spot overdue work, move orders forward in one tap, add notes, and receive a daily list of overdue orders without keeping a separate spreadsheet.
